What Makes a Pet Owner License
What’s the difference between those who license their pets and those who do not?
To prepare this report we worked with Idaho-based research firm, Marketspark, to develop and deploy a customized survey to more than 350 pet owners across the United States and Canada. In order to better understand how those who license are similar to those who do not, and, perhaps more importantly, how they are different, we explored:
- Pet owner demographics
- The nature of pet owner's relationships with their dogs
- Pet owner behavior and attitudes regarding pet tags and licensing

Pet Licensing Industry Insider: Attitudes, Performance and Best Practices
To prepare this report we sent a survey to more than 400 managers of Pet Licensing Organizations across the United States and Canada. We received 80 responses.
We also used information collected from our many consultations with Pet Licensing Organizations and collected additional data by reviewing the pet licensing web pages of more than 600 jurisdictions.

The State of the Pet Licensing Industry in North America
We studied many of the standard rates and commonalities between pet licensing programs across North America.
The findings in this report are based on three main data sources: A comprehensive pet licensing survey commissioned by an independent market research firm, our own primary research including over 100 consultations with pet licensing organizations, and online data collected on over 600 organizations verified for reliability.
