Unifying Shelters.
Reuniting Pets.
Redefining Recovery.

The National Animal Shelter Network (NASN), powered by DocuPet, is North America’s largest and most comprehensive pet reunification framework. Linking hundreds of animal shelters together and providing tools and resources to help identify owners of lost pets, participating shelters have unparalleled opportunities to increase community-based pet reunification, reduce shelter intakes, and decrease length of stay for animals in their communities.

Through advanced digital tools and real-time data sharing, shelters in the network work together across jurisdictions creating a smarter, faster, more connected way to bring home pets.

What Shelters Get

Shelters gain access to a powerful set of tools from DocuPet, designed to increase pet reunification and enhance lost pet prevention. With the ability to easily and quickly search lost pets, shelters are poised to lead the way in helping reunite pets with their families.

National Pet Record Search

DocuPet’s search tool gives all network shelters access to over 4 million (and growing) pet records. Shelters can identify lost pets by searching via tag ID or microchip number. For pets without ID, shelters can search using physical characteristics such as species, breed, age, color, and markings—plus proximity to where the animal was found. When a match is made, authorized pet owner information is instantly accessible. DocuPet’s 24/7 HomeSafe® team is also available to assist in contacting the pet owner. No other platform offers such a comprehensive, real-time reunification resource.

Cross-Jurisdiction Collaboration

Shelters can work together to help identify lost pets in their regions thereby reducing duplication efforts, and conserving agency resources and time. Shelters can also share ideas, learn about new pet reunification initiatives, and meet new colleagues who are dedicated to helping lost pets be reunited with their families.

Shelter teams receive ongoing service to enhance community engagement, conversations, and events. DocuPet provides feedback loops to improve community interactions and provide additional team support. We work with agencies to find the best strategies to help bring this solution to local communities.
