Founded with a mission to see every dog and cat in North America registered, tagged, and protected, DocuPet has become North America’s largest and fastest-growing pet registration and reunification platform. The National Pet Registry now serves over 300 jurisdictions and is expanding rapidly. Our vision is simple but transformative: connect pet owners, shelters, animal control, and governments in one modern, national network that works—anytime, anywhere.

Our platform combines HomeSafe^® reunification resources with the National Pet Record Search, a cross-jurisdictional lost pet search tool for shelters. Together, they replace outdated, siloed systems with instant connectivity and real-time collaboration—dramatically increasing return-to-owner rates, easing shelter crowding, and reuniting thousands of pets with their families each year, often within hours.

Innovation is in our DNA. From advanced search tools to simplified online registration, we continually push the boundaries of what’s possible in pet protection. Our custom ID tags, National Animal Shelter Network, and 24/7 live support create a safety net that travels with every pet, ensuring help is always within reach.

Our team consists of more than 100 members who bring a breadth of experience from the public sector, agency, start-up and corporate retail environments. Stationed at one of our two headquarters or located in one of our many home offices across the continent, we may not be able to agree on which timezone reigns supreme, but...

Our History

DocuPet was born out of a glaring opportunity to support animal shelters. When we learned that 60% of local animal welfare funding comes from license sales but that just 13% of pet owners comply with mandatory registration laws, our company’s wheels were nearly immediately set into motion.

Emerging as an eager-to-learn innovator in the pet licensing space in 2012, we set out to learn as much as we could about the widespread struggles surrounding pet licensing programs. We spent the foreseeable future learning, building, refining, improving (rinsing and repeating) to craft an undeniable licensing solution that works for everyone - pets, their owners, and the community alike.
